What is more sad; that pagans and God-haters would say such things about God and His Word, or that those who call themselves Christians would agree with them?
2 tim. 3:1-9
1But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.
6They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over weak-willed women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, 7always learning but never able to acknowledge the truth. 8Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these men oppose the truth—men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected. 9But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those men, their folly will be clear to everyone.
2 Pet 3:11-18
11Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives 12as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming.[b]That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. 13But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.
14So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him. 15Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. 16He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.
17Therefore, dear friends, since you already know this, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men and fall from your secure position. 18But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.
2 Chron. 7:13-14
13When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command the locust to devour the land, or send pestilence among my people, 14if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
Joshua,
How many times have you heard “Christians” arguing against Theonomy use the same example about shell fish?
Bret,
I haven’t personally encountered anyone who “argued” against theonomy, although I have met a couple of folks who disliked theonomy because some of its defenders were zealous and (so the individuals claimed) raising applications to the level of principles.
I’ve more commonly encountered folks who don’t like the wrathful God of the OT, or they don’t think the genocide of Canaanites was a very tasteful thing for God to command of the Israelites, and so forth.
No one has given a satisfactory answer to what justifies a standard of right apart from God’s determination. I wonder if such people will ever realize that no satisfactory answer can be given?
Joshua,
It is doubtful as long as they can continue to invoke Natural law theories.
Have the food laws been abbregated?
Acts 10 (Peter’s thrice repeated vision) would suggest they have been, though I realize that Rushdoony still held to some of them. I think Rushdoony was wrong here.
So that slams that point from the video shut… next?
Next would be Jesus singing that this country was founded in such a way that Church and State were separate.
Well a brief examination would reveal that idea is a myth if by separate one means totally unrelated.
Also Jesus sang in the video that a husband could have a wife stoned and a father could sell his daughter into slavery. The misrepresentations here are so bad I’d have to know exactly what they are distorting in order to speak to it.
