This is concise but it is most certainly not profound. Indeed Nathaniel’s analysis is inaccurate. Protestantism, RC and EO are themselves entirely different religions that use the same language but fill that language with a completely different meaning. I have no more in common with an RC or EO than I do with a Cultural Marxist. IF RC or EO ever get the whip hand they will be after Biblical Christians the same way that the Cultural Marxists are right now.

Anybody who finds the statement profound that “Faithful of Protestantism, Catholicism, and E Orthodoxy consider each other to be heretics of the same religion” hasn’t yet thought through the massive differences between Christianity and what is not Christianity as expressed by RC and EO competing religions.

It is a profound misunderstanding of Reformed doctrines vis-a-vis the doctrines of Rome or the EO that allows someone to suggest that we are all Christian though heretics to one another as within the Christian faith. I do not doubt that Rome and EO have Christians in their communities of faith. I do insist though that neither Rome nor EO in their official expression of Christianity is Christianity. In their official expressions of the faith in their doctrinal formulations, Rome and EO are anti-Christ.

    That’s an extreme statement.

    I believe, as you do, that the RC and EO churches are doctrinally in error, but I’ve known some of them from whom I can learn a different perspective on truth. I can’t say the same for any Communist, cultural Marxist who is anti-Christ to the uttermost!

    I have more in common with Chesterton or Acton, Solzhenitsyn or Pobedonostsev, than I do with Ilya Ehrenburg or Trotsky.

      1. I’ve read ‘A Cloud of Witnesses’ and Wurmbrand’s ‘Tortured for Christ’. I’ll just leave, for your consideration, this excerpt from a Protestant minister, Edward Mannering:

        We are so to live and act, that the truth may not be brought into disrepute; but that others, seeing what it has done for us, may be constrained to confess “it is worthy of all acceptation,” and deserves their attention and love. p. 48. But there are reasons to believe that the doctrine is dishonored, even by those who profess to love it: they will, as it were, fight, sword in hand, for its measure of glory in the scale of theology, but they exhibit none, or but little, of its essential loveliness; nor any of the meekness and humility which are its relative, not its accidental, attendants. … What a blessing would the truth be to the world and to the church, if all professed Christians expressed its holiness by every word they utter, by every temper they cultivate, and by every action they perform. p. 49. We cannot confer a greater blessing on those around us than we shall do by holding forth the Word of life in all its purity and power, not so much by strength of argument, as by Christian consistency.
